Kagihei Ryokan

Ryokans do not come cheap but if you are looking for a tatami experience you can not beat Ryokans for service and food! We were welcomed by our host who lives on site. She escorted us to our room and the poured tea with a small Japanese cake. Her English was good and she was impeccably dressed.

Our Ryokan came with Japanese breakfast and dinner. This Ryokan was noted for its quality of food. Last night the dinner came with 8 courses and over 20 dishes! Beer, sake or wine is additional to the room fee which is always charged per person for a Ryokan, not per room.

All dishes were excellent from the sashimi to the crushed lily root but the highlight was the melt in the mouth Kyoto beef.

Dessert was worth a mention as the grapes were the sweetest I've ever tasted. As always, presentation is everything!

Kagihei Ryokan in Kyoto was definitely worth the stay. The room was very large and the added bonus was the Japanese baths on the second floor which was greatly appreciated after all the walking around Arashiyama.
