I have always loved photography. However I have always felt a degree of frustration as a photographer. Canon DSLR's have been my mainstay up until last year when I fell in love with the Fuji X100. As with all gadgets, the updates are constant and so is the expense.
Lately I have just been too busy to either travel or, if I have, to have been bothered lugging a large camera or lens, for that matter, wherever I go. Dare I admit it but my iPhone 5 has become my shutterbug assistant. I have also begun to delve deep into interactive photographic apps, namely Snapseed and Instagram.

This is a reflection in my car door. It caught my eye and makes for an interesting shot. |
This all began with Picasa and the funky filters and edit modes. One could turn a photo into something dramatic. Then someone told me about Instagram and a new found craze began. Discovering hashtags just made Instagram far more infectious than FB and I was hooked. When I stumbled across Snapseed and added the photo of Marina Bay with various filters, an entire new world opened up.
Now I look for interesting pictures and play with filters for fun. Is it true photography? Well it is artistic and it is highly satisfying. I guess it can be likened to those filters photographers used to add to their lenses such as the adjustable ring polaroid filters. Whether it upsets the purists of this world, does not really matter. What is incredible is to find work from people all over the world and to see art in action. The best examples I have witnessed so far are from a young photographer who takes all his pictures on an iPhone but the composure and angles of his photos are simply stunning.
