My links to Japan go way back to when I started studying Chinese. Being in the department of Asian studies meant many of my friends were also studying Japanese.
I remember a 3 week trip to Japan to visit friends during my scholarship time in China. Tokyo amazed me and stood in stark contrast to China in the mid 90's. I remember the heat of the summer down south in Takamatsu and the great beaches on many of the tiny islands nearby.
My links to Japan went deeper when I spent a year on the JET program. Iwate prefecture was my home and Hanamaki my city. That year I learned just how unique Japan was and thanks must go to my supervisor who mentored me that entire year.
In 2009 I finally got to return for a week in Tokyo including a day trip out to Kamakura. I put together this little collage of pictures on Picassa and uploaded it to youtube. I know one of my teachers from Taipei will appreciate this.
