Day 7 - Wireless Taipei

One of the most amazing things about Taipei is just how connected it is. Like most, I love my smartphone and I love to message my friends when it is connected via wi-fi.

Last time I was here, I saw signs everywhere entitled Taipei Free. Since my last trip was short, I never bothered to register but this time I realized it was a necessity.

All I had to do was present my passport for registration at a visitor information centre. Finding the centre was a little challenging as where exactly it was within Taipei Main Station was not that clear but I was fortunate enough to stumble upon and after giving my passport, I was registered and accessing TPE-Free.

I learned today that 7-11 stores also offer a free wi-fi service. I am not sure whether foreign numbers can register but 7 11 stores are also hotspots for TPE Free Wi-Fi access and since these stores are so numerous, that means a lot of hotspots.

My other favorite tech thing for today has been watching people input Chinese characters on their phones. I love to watch people using their iPhones as they write in script and then convert it to characters. It seems very popular for all those FB messages and updates! In fact the Apple software recognition tool is handy for practicing characters. I was doing that today whilst having my coffee at Starbucks at Yangmingshan!

Thus my two favorite terms right now are 热点 (literally hotspot) and 无线网路 (no lines net: Wi-fi) especially when the word 免费 (free) is attached to it!
