Today has been my last full day in Taipei. Spent the morning packing and, after my last session at the gym, I headed off to meet a friend to visit Chiang Kai Shek's official residence in Shilin.
As a student of modern Chinese history, this was a highlight of the trip. I love visiting such places having visiting Sun Yat Sen's residence in Shanghai. Such places truly are trips back in time and I thought that Chiang Kai Shek's residence was well preserved.
The house is set in huge gardens which were probably not at their best, especially in the summer heat but everywhere was green and lush and the gardens well laid out. The house itself is a rather unassuming large residence set against the hills. Unfortunately I was unable to take any photos inside the residence but it is tastefully decorated and full of a mix of both Chinese and Western furniture.
His Cadillac limo is also on display. It is parked down in the entrance to the residence.
I had to head back into town for shopping and a final touch base with a few more friends. Dinner was Japanese at Ximending. Nearby Ximending MRT station is a great place to stock up on pineapple tarts and that was my final stop of the night. A final pack and a walk out for a bubble tea. This will probably be my final post from Taipei but I know I will be back. Time to sign off and head out again.
